Wireless Keys to easily viewed.

We have some units that we use that are connected to our wireless network, we have been diligent in keeping our keys from our employees since they would connect devices such as phones and tablets for free streaming. Windows 7 makes seeing this password all to easy and it seems there is no easy way to turn this feature off. Any ideas on what we could do?

MAC address filtering? Seems like the best option to me.

You should have posted in the Networking section as you'd get more responses most likely.

The key is about as secure as any password: meaning not at all.

If you're serious about restricting devices on your wireless network, it's time for a RADIUS server. Key or no, if the server doesnt let you connect you're not getting anywhere.

RADIUS. Or at the very least MAC address filtering. Just kind of depends on the level of "not on my network" security you need.

Yeah I wouldn't trust that it truely was unretrievable. Its not like Windows stores a hash of the wifi password. Therefore, it is retrievable.

Or you could use one of the third party utilities that do not allow the key to be viewed.

if the user is not a local admin on a pc [which is still probably fairly common. i cant get them to lock down stuff at work] then they cant see the password iirc.

phones can be set up to use RADIUS authentication, but its not as easy as a regular wifi connection
