wireless issues on winxp

When I first got my linksys wusb11 (linksys wireless router as well), I got it to work no problem. I think someone put the computer on standby and/or I may have messed with zero wireless configuration... but anyhow I couldn't get it to work afterwards.

Since then I've tried installing win2k and gone back to xp. I have a fresh install of winxp SP1 and I still can't get it to work. There is no conflict in device manager. I'm pretty positive I've installed it correctly. I've tried disabling WEP and enabling. When I had it working at one point, WEP was enabled.

One thing that struck me was that I put it in ad-hoc mode to test it... and I got a weak signal. but in the infrastructure (sp?) mode it still wouldn't work. I've been struggling for weeks getting this to work and no luck.

I would suggest resetting your wap to default, uninstalling your wi-fi nic, and reconfiguring from scratch. I've seen this work countless times, haven't figured out why, but whoooooo cares, as long as it works huh?

Are you using drivers provided by XP or the vendor? I know on my laptop the vendor supplied drivers don't support all the new XP autonetwork setup, so I didin't get anything until I setup the wireless network name properly in the driver config (this was with the 3com card with the xjack antenna, the Ornico gold it replaced worked perfect but had the stickout antenna).

I'm using driver supplied by the vendor. When I first got it to work, the vendor supplied drivers worked. Something I did notice through my many many reinstalls of this device was that winxp would default to use XP drivers instead (even though I pointed to the cdrom). Perhaps this is because the linksys drivers were loaded on the hdd already?

Something someone else suggested. I have my DHCP users set to 4, because I didn't want extra users on the wireless. I thought if I limited this number (we have 3 cpu's at home), it would help with security. Anyhow, someone suggested I increase this number (default is 50) to a higher number. I've done this but haven't had time to reinstall the adapter. Thoughts on this?

The DHCP settings would affect your ability to get an IP, but not to even see the network at all (which is what it sounds like your seeing). Did you check for any firmware updates for the card?

forgive my n00bness... but I thought firmware was only for the router... in which case I have the latest... but I will check again when I get home.

I have the latest xp drivers for the wireless adapter.

No worries, but fyi wireless network cards often have their own firmware updates that are needed (not saying thats the problem here, but worth checking)

I just checked the linksys site and there are no firmware upgrades for the wusb11 v2.6. Latest drivers are:

Driver Version : 01.02.02.66 or 2.10.37.2037 (WinXP)

I'm pretty sure I have that already.
