Wireless issues, no internet with wep

I have a linksys befsr81 8 port router hooked up to dsl. I have a linksys wifi router (wrt54g) that is connected to the other router (lan port to wan port).

Clients on the 8 port router can access the internet fine, wired clients on the wifi router can also access the internet fine, wifi clients can only access the internet when the security is completely disabled.

All clients are running winxp w/sp2.

Are there known issues with wep and windows or is this a hardware issue?
 
Can the users actually recieve a signal wirelessly? If so, are they able to connect? If they can connect I am assuming that the internet cant be accessed? Are you sure you have set up the WEP security properly?
 
So I tried a new access point and it worked fine.

That's two linksys router I've dealt with now that had really strange problems.
