Wireless IP cam only works through 3rd party software

I have a Trendnet 100W IP cam that sends a pic every 15 min to my puter, which has onboard wifi. Originally, I tried directly getting the cam to send the pic directly to the puter and upload to my website, but that never worked. I have to use ActiveWebcam software to get it to work. The software does the job, but is a memory hog and I'd rather just go direct through the cam's settings, but no luck. Shouldn't this be possible or am I missing something obvious? Thanks.
