I am located in Eastern Massachusetts, and I am thinking about picking up some sort of wireless internet service for an ipaq i will soon be purchasing.

Does anyone know of any services that do this? I am also not interested in paying alot, I was thinking maybe $10-20 a month.

Any ideas?

- T-Mobile (Via T-Mobile hot spots)
- Sprint PCS Vision or any other cellular provider

AFAIK there are no "phone only" wireless ISPs because what network would they use? The only free floating networks out there are owned by cell phone companies, and most wi-fi hotspots are T-Mobile

how would you connect a Sprint phone to an Ipaq? i think the Sprint PCS Vision uses USB cable that can hook up to a laptop (covered in another thread), but Ipaq does not have a USB slot (i think only SD/MMC and optional CF sleeve).

is there a such thing as CF -> USB?

I know i have seen people walking around with wireless internet on their ipaq's. I just need to know how they were doing it ( im sure it wasnt 802.11).

The person was using no external devices (i.e. cell phone)

Any other ideas?

You sure it's not GSM cell phone + Bluetooth?

They could have had the phone in their pocket.

Also, Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and others all have a version of a PalmPC that works with their services. It's possible you saw one of those. They look like iPaqs as well.

AFAIK the only networks with the data capability and signal strength to browse from an Ipaq without a massive external antenna are cell networks.

T-Mobile now offers an unlimited cell phone internet plan via GPRS for 30 a month, or 20 a month if you're already a T-mobile user. It's quite a deal considering unlimited internet options from carriers such as Sprint are quiet expensive ($100 a month I believe) and Verizon for 80. I can't even recall AT&T offering unlimited but they do have like 10mb plans for ~$20 or so. You can get an ipaq that has built in bluetooth such as the Ipaq 5450, Ipaq 3970, or the new Ipaq 2210 or the smaller 1940. If you plan to get a ipaq without bluetooth, you can use the compact flash expensive sleeve and get a CF based bluetooth based card. You can also go old-skool style by just being tethred to the cell phone via a cable or via infrared.

Another option would be purchasing the GSM/GPRS sleeve, built in phone and wireless modem!
