Wireless Internet dies as I walk out of room

Hey there,

My wireless internet works within the same room where the router is perfectly. When I leave the room, the internet works for a few minutes and then will dies out. All the other laptops work perfectly fine outside the room, it's just mine. I generally disconnect and reconnect and after a minute or two it'll reconnect for a few minutes. The network bars are usually at minimum 3 and sometimes even at the full 5, even though the browsers aren't working when I'm outside the room.

I disabled the power management on the wireless driver, as I read that might have been affecting it. My IP and DNS are on automatic. Both Protocol version 6 and 4 are ticked, when I've unticked protocol 6, it didn't make a difference with the connectivity issues.

Restarting the computer seems to fix the connectivity issues the best, but I think that's also because it takes a minute to do so.

I have a DELL 15R Inspiron which is like a week old. It might be a DELL issue as the other laptops aren't dell and connect fine. This is really frustrating and I hope it'll get solved soon with someone's awesome help. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Thanks,
E.

the network interface controller (the wifi card itself) may not be very strong, compared to your other devices.

On your router, set the signal to b/g/n (if it has this functionality). It will at least ensure that all wifi hosts can pick up the signal.

As a long term solution, change the drivers for the wifi card, or replace the NIC altogether.

Easy solution....don't walk out of the room! 😉 Sorry I couldn't resist.

As mammador said....sounds like the wifi card on your laptop is not working correctly. My son has a Dell Studio 15R and he can go all over the house and get a signal. Call Dell tech support and tell them what's going on. It's under warranty.
