i'm moving into an apartment with a friend who has DSL and a wireless router. its D-Link, and i think it was around $100 when he bought it, but i dont know precise numbers.
i currently have an old laptop with a PCMCI ethernet card and a free PCMCI slot. i'm also building a new CPU. i want to build a shuttle XPC based rig, but there is only one PCI slot, which i wanted to use for a high end sound card. i have a powered hub, plenty of standard ethernet and cross-over cables.
to me, a solution would be to get a wireless USB 2.0 adapter for the new PC to network with my friend's router and share the DSL line and then just use crossover (or the hub) to connect to my old laptop. this is sufficient and probably the cheapest and fastest, but i cant find a USB 2.0 adapter. i found a couple 1.1 adapters but they are like 11 Mbps while the router (i think) is 54 Mpbs. any suggestions?
