Hi all,

I am looking to install a self managed wireless hotspot in a small hotel.

It will be serving 20 rooms across 2 floors,

I want to be able to issue usernames and passwords for allocated time (like you normally get in these kinds of places)

Option of paying online would be nice, but not essential.

I have found companies out there that provide this kit at around £700 (am in the UK) but i'm sure there is a DIY option, allthough cannot find much information about it.

So anyone know more on this issue or what hardware/software i need? or recommend a company in the UK for this?

Thanks!

A router flashed with DD-WRT, provides some support for hotspots. Google "DD-WRT hotspot setup".

I'd also recommend the ddwrt hotspot option. Couple ddwrt with chillspot and you'll have a reliable, self running router that can handle all your hotspot stuff as well as billing if you choose to bill for usage.

Don't know much about it...but hopefully when you're done you can come back and update with the result and stumbling blocks and what not.

Good luck :)

dont forget that you can get pre-flashed WRT54G-TM routers with DD-WRT for like $60 on ebay.

i have been looking into hotspotsystems.com but was wondering if anyone knows of a system like that where i dont need to pay them a monthly fee, but rather a one off fee for the software on the router.

I would rather have a system like thier voucher system where i give the users the code but without a fee to hotspotsystems

thanks!
