I'm trying to get wireless to a shop. The dsl modem is in a Window with a straight, open path to the shop. I'm going to put a usb wifi adapter at the edge of the shop in plain sight of the router that's inside the house. The distance is about 40 yards give or take. Again the usb adapter(which I will have a long usb extension cable going to my pc in the shop) will have a clear view of the router with only a glass Window between them. I'm looking for a a good router and usb wifi adapter. I really only play quake 2 which doesn't take much bandwidth.

I don't want to spend a crazy amount. I already have a Cisco router(bought it a year ago forgot model atm). What are some of you guys using and what results?

I would buy two WNR2000 v2 units (Netgear N300) from Newegg (refurb for $20).

Then install DD-WRT, and set up client mode or WDS mode.

I'm running several of those routers in WDS mode, and it works great with my FIOS connection.
