Any reason to get G instead of B when I'm just going to use the internet for this and not set up a network? I have a fast cable internet connection (3 Mbps). My house is small.
Thanks.

Although if you have XP with SP1 and provided your wireless hardware will support it, WPA security will be available. It will give you added protection from hackers and is considered more secure than just plain WEP. My laptop has a A, B, and G built in and I have a Microsoft MN700 G wireless router. Supposedly both support WPA but I could not get it to work for some reason. If you want WPA, you should probably stick with a matching set of wireless card and router.

Some consumer broadband Internet services can actually saturate a Wireless-B connection. Keep in mind that if you have a buddy over you need to split the available bandwidth. More bandwidth is always a better thing.

Also, remember the fact that bandwith with 802.11b is actually about 2mbps, and that's 20 ft. away from the router in an open room with line-of-sight. I got a full D-link wireless setup for 45$ AR from CompUSA, and it even came with a super-high-power antenna! (which I highly reccomend). If you really want to save money, you may as well just set up a wired network.
