I had trouble with a similar card before back then the IRQ was causing the problem and so I thought that was what is happening now
the laptop is a dell inspiron 8000
I installed ME on it(I have a usb device that they didn't make a driver for XP)and it is very important that ME stays on it
I have tried disabling stuff and changing irqs nothing seems to be working
when it had XP on it the card worked fine but now when I plug it in the pc doesn't even detect it

the card is detected in another laptop so it is probably not bad,I will plug it in to the other laptop and see if it works
I don't think the card is bad and I won't be buying any more of them

Hopefully it would work. However in general this specific issue is Not an issue of "bad cards", but rather in issue of new working cards that are not compatible with an old OS, and or, old PCMCIA interface.

According to Linksys, the wpc54gx is only compatible with Windows 2000 and XP. It won't work in Windows 98 or Me. This is printed on the box and in the product data sheet for the wireless apdater. You MIGHT get lucky if you run the installation program on the CD that came with the adapter, but it's possible that the program won't even run in Me.

It looks like you have a few choices:

1) Get a wireless adapter that works in Windows Me.
2) Don't use wireless on the laptop.
3) Replace the 'mystery" USB device with one that will work in Windows XP.
or
4) Tell us what the USB device is so we can try to help you get it working in XP.

You can download a driver for the scanner for Windows 98se/ME/2KXP/Vista from the Pacific Imaging web site here.
