Hi,

I have an old wireless network. I have a base and a laptop and want to finally integrate my TV and stereo for media and am thinking about a set top box. The base will be through a wall or two, the set top/HTPC will be close to the router, unless I want to run a phone line up a few stories. The base will be a new PCI card (I guess), the laptop I think uses a wireless B standard, but I would easily go with a new wireless USB or PCMIA card for better speed. I have been reading up a little on N, N+ and Google TV and just moved into a new large 1 floor apartment. There will not be much in between the router and the set top box. I'd just like to know the following:

Is N+ any better than N for future proofing (like Google TV)?
Is 5GHZ better only when there is a conflict on 2.4GHZ?
Any product recommendations (Belkin looked to have a cool feature with the guest network, but gets subpar short range recomeendations)...?
Lastly, is an HTPC still a better choice for media streaming, or are there some set top boxes which are good for streaming and are inobtrusive?

Thanks In Advance.

I wouldn't worry about N+, stick with certified N.

I have found 5Ghz to be much better than 2.4Ghz. I don't have many other wireless networks around but have found much less interference from regular household items.

Stay away from Belkin! I have a Linksys WRT610N and absolutely love it. Dual band is the way to go IMHO. 5Ghz for streaming and 2.4Ghz for surfing and downloads. Linksys, Netgear, Buffalo, and D-Link all make good routers. But like everything else some models are going to be much better than others even withing the same manufacturer.

For streaming I use a WD HD TV Live. It streams anything and is tiny.
