Wireless feature(s) recommendation...

Im hoping to setup a wireless network once the cable guy comes to upgrade our cable and install the cable modem.

I want to set up a 802.11g wireless network, but what are the standard features that I would ideally want? Both security and hardware-wise.

I know I want to have a complex password for the router, use ssid, and mac address filtering. Do I really want to use WEP encryption? And is there any other feature out there that I havent listed? The network will consist of my desktop pc which I'll probably use cat5 from my ethernet card to the router, while my dad's laptop will use a wireless card. In future I might add a couple more desktop computers.

Also do you guys have any router recommendations?

Most of the Entry Level Wireless hardware has similar features.

The features that you mention are a matter of configuration. E.g. All Wireless Hardware has WEP, whether you want to use it is up to you.

As far as performance.

Your actual distance might be different then what describe in the Graphs. Indoor coverage depends heavily on the envioroment; graphs like this should be used to understand the relation in performance between Wireless hardware.

The D-Link and Linksys 801.11g are good performers, used by many, and can be found on sales for very decent prices.

If there are new features they usually come in a form of Firmware upgrades.

Otherwise you can log to the manufactures Websites pull the specs. PDFs and read them. Make sure that you have a lot of free time.
