I have a desktop computer built in 2011 that uses to be hard wired and have internet in my old home.

However the new house does not have ethernet connections in the room I'm placing the computer.

Do you guys recommend I purchase a wifi extender with Ethernet port or purchase a wifi adapter for the PC. It is running on windows 7 and is kind of outdated. It is primarily used for web browsing and YouTube viewing.

Additionally I also have an old router laying around with ddwrt installed if it could be of any use.

Thank you.

I would just use a wifi extender, which has much better signal than a USB adapter.

DD-WRT's UI is confusing as hell.

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Bridged(same IP range as primary router)
Only use this or Repeater Bridge mode if all of the others are unsuitable: WDS, Client, Repeater, or AP. Client Bridge will never be as stable as any of those modes. It is by design a hack and not a true transparent bridge like WDS. It will cause connection problems for more than a single client.

https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Client_Mode (secondary is in NAT mode, uses different IP range from primary router).

OP can try either mode as suggested by VL. I just didn't have good experience with either one. YMMV.

So, in your new house the main internet router is in a different room and away from the computer room? I would just run a cable from the main router to the computer somehow. If you don't like running cables use power line adapters as suggested. Cables are just more reliable than wifi.
