Wireless Driving me MAD

I have a 2mbps wireless connection at home.

I know that the signal is good because I can get full speed downloads, 240kb/s.

But more than often the speed drops really low and stays like this for some time, it happens randomly and its really annoying when I want to browse or download. It drops to like 6kb/s and it's damn frustrating.

Even got some new uprated ariels and it still happens. Wireless router is only a floor below. I even put the computer next to it and it happened.???

Tried new drivers, firmwares etc..

Does anybody know why this is happening??

DLink DI-614+ Router
DLink DWL-520+ Card

Thanks

What are you trying to dl?

If it is file-sharing then you can expect low and high download speeds due to other ppl bandwidth. Not alot you can do except configure firewall which would speed it up a little more

Sounds like wireless interference to me. Intermittent interference such as a 2.4Ghz cordless phone or a neighbor occasionally using their wireless router on the same channel as your router could certainly be causing the problem. Changing the channel on the router or eliminating the interference should fix the problem if that is what is causing it.

It may also be worthwhile to check for a firmware update on your router and new drivers for your wireless card.

cheers.

I think my neighbours have a wireless router as I pick it up sometimes.

If I change the channel on the router, how do i do this on my PC, through properties of the wireless card??

Thanks again.

If you change the channel on the router, your wireless card should pick up the new channel.

New channel seemed to help last night, but then I tired it later on and it was ok for about 10mins then all of a sudden it went slow again.

So I restarted my PC and it solved it???

I don't think anyone is leeching unless they are seriously uploading as my connection speed drops to 5kb/s and the downstairs PC is fine when my connection is knacked. Also my brother is even further upstairs and he has the same wireless card as me and I don't think his connection drops.

Could be a re-install of Windows (may be besr).

Could there be something wrong with my PC??
I have the latest drivers for the wireless card.

PS. I have encryption, just changed it yesterday too.
