I have a 802.11g wireless network setup using D-Link's newest gear (I don't know the model numbers). I bought all 802.11g gear and have access to my cable modem using both my desktop and my laptop. On my desktop which uses a PCI wireless card I can get in excess of 1000Kb/sec download speeds. On my laptop I can only get appx 70Kb/sec download speeds, it uses a PCMCIA connection. My desktop uses windows 2000 and my laptop uses windows xp. Is there a reason I cannot get the same download speeds on my laptop as well. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to speed up the download speeds on my laptop?

The only difference should be the big antenna you have on the PCI card. If you move your laptop within 5 feet of your router with no walls in between, I am sure your tranfer will be as good too. I have a Dlink 802.11b router. I tried both USR2410 and the Dell Truemobile PC cards and the signal will drop from time to time and my transfer rate will be really bad. I have also realized that on certain surface that I have my laptop, I will not get any signal.

The wierd thing is that my desktop is in another room and usually I'm using the laptop from the living room with no walls in between it and the router. And I still can't get good speed out of it.
