wireless download speed slower than upload?

I'm setting up a new laptop and ran into a weird issue where its download speed on wireless is pathetic (6mbps) but its upload speed is fine (80mbps). I've been looking through the running processes and services to see if I can find something throttling it, but I haven't found anything. Anyone have an idea of what could cause this or what to look for?

I just tried an old laptop on wireless and it's getting 20 mbps down. So the router isn't limited and I don't think it's capping wireless speeds. That laptop is really old too. Its wireless card is a g where the new one's is an n. The new one is also a 2x2, not sure what the old one is.

I managed to improve my throughput by disabling WMM on my router. This got me 25mbps up and down. Which is a little strange since I was getting 80 up with it on. Not only that, but disabling it also improved the throughput of the old laptop to 28 from 20. Very strange.

WMM is like a QOS service and QOS can have detrimental effects on network speed.
