Today my Dad came over and saw my wireless setup and decided he "had to have it". Unfortunately he uses AOL :disgust: and does not want to give it up . So... I was trying to find out if there is a way to use AOL dialup and a wireless router/router wireless-WAP combo. Obviously he would need an external modem attached to the router that would dial whenever he wanted to access AOL.
I think he is SOL, but I just wanted to see if anyone here at ATF had any brilliant ideas. I don't think that PPPOE will work because he likes the AOL interface :disgust::eek::Q

If he really wants to keep AOL tell him to get DSL/cable and get an AOL BYOA plan. And why exactly does he want wireless anyway? Dialup isn't an always on connection, so the wireless computer wouldn't be able to access the internet anyway unless the wired one was connected. (I have no idea if the wireless one can "make" the wired one connect to AOL)

A computer can have a Regular Internal Modem Installed, and a Wired or Wireless card. They can coexist together. If you use the Modem you can dial and get DialUp if you use the LAN it will go on the broadband.

Actually he does not even need a Modem.

If the AOL Mail is the concern he can leave is account as is and use the mail from the broadband by logging through the DSL to AOL.com.

Whether it is wired or wireless does not matter. Wireless is just a cable replacement.
