I'm trying to fix a prob with my friend's wireless setup. he has a d-link 614+ router/ap and some d-link wireless pci card. the d-link wireless monitor program repots 100% link quality and 80% signal strength, but winxp reports either no signal or occaisionally "very low" signal.

when I open IE and try to browse a website, it usually can't even get anywhere, but occaisionally it can send a few packets and says "opening page" in the status bar.

then I moved the router/ap into the same room with the comp and the d-link monitor prog reported 100%/100% but winxp reported "low". so making the distance lower improves the signal for both the monitor prog and winxp, but winxp is still reporting it wayy to low (and apparently somehow not allowing packets to get through)

Try updating the driver and/or seeing if you can get a driver for it from Windows Update.

I had this exact same problem with a couple of cards, and that fixed it. (One of them was a Compaq card, which I'm pretty sure is a rebranded DLink)

I am not at my laptop right now, but I thought you could stop windows from managing the wireless connection. Perhaps that will help. Just let the D-Link software do all the work.
