Wireless connects but no internet or packets sent

I am having trouble with my wireless configuration. Everything was working fine, butl just a few days ago it was connecting, but can't pull websites sometimes. Now, I can't pull any websites at all. I noticed that no packets are being sent and when I ping, I get a "hardware error" in response. However, I can ping the loopback and the assigned DHCP IP address. I also can release and renew the IP. I am using a generic Trendware 802.11b pcmcia card (realtek 8180) on an IBM T22 laptop. I am also using a netgear MR814v2 wireless router.

Does the wired part of the router work? I've had really bad luck with netgear routers. Can you reset it and resetup everything again?

amdskip has the right idea, verify a working router first, then troubleshoot wireless. When it comes down to wireless, make sure the IP you are getting is valid, with a valid DNS & gateway address too. Also, I know of several routers that will grant addresses but not route for unauthenticated wireless clients, so if you're using WEP/WPA, verify all your keys.

thread hijack alert -> SP2 is worth any hassle that it comes with amdskip, don't promote MS bashing

Problem solved!

I unpowered the router and still was getting "hardware error". The solution was disabling the intergrated Ethernet controller and renabling it. Resetting the TCP settings fixed the problem.
