Wireless connectivity odd issues

More than once I have been to a customers site to diagnose a wireless connection issue and found no reason for it to not connect to their access point, only to plug the computer into their wired network, and then a short time later the wireless card makes a connection.

I just ran into this again today. I cycled the power on the access point, rebooted the laptop, entered the WPA key again, all without making a wireless connection.

During this process their was a couple of other laptops connected wirelessly with no issues.

As I have come to try the above mentioned technique as a troubleshooting process, I plugged the laptop into their wired network and sure enough, within a short time I could make the wireless connection.

How tied into the network stack is the wireless networking, that it takes plugging the device into the wired network to get the wireless to work?

Anyone have any idea as to why this technique works?
