Wireless connection keeps resetting. What's the cause?

I have both my Desktop & Laptop PCs wirelessly connected to a Buffalo 54G Wireless Router. The Desktop has a Buffalo PCI card, and the Laptop a Buffalo PCMCIA card.

On my desktop, I frequently get a message popping up saying that it has connected to the network, meaning it has reset the connection I assume. I don't notice it as often on my laptop, but then again I don't use it as much.

What is the likely cause of this? Is the problem on the Router end or with the PC? Is this some inherent flaw of Buffalo stuff?

Apart from hardware compatibility (or failure) between the Router and the wireless NIC, there are several things that can cause wireless disconnects.

The most common causes are 2.4Ghz cordless phones, other nearby wireless networks broadcasting on the same or similar channel, stone or metal walls or heavy metal cabinets between the devices, high powered microwaves, improperly placed/aligned antennas, too much distance between the devices, etc.

Start by eliminating obvious interference such as cordless phones and microwaves, then try using the network while closer to the router. If it works reliably at a shorter distance, try changing the channel on your wireless router. If it still will not work correctly at the 'normal' distance, try to eliminate interference from walls and furniture by changing the location of the router and/or PC if possible.
