Wireless connection drops when I close my notebook

I have an Averatec 6100HS notebook.. sometimes at night I will leave downloads running, however when I close the notebook my wireless connection will disconnect. Does anyone know a way to disable this? In 'Power Options' I have set `do nothing` when lid is closed to no avail.
