Wireless Connection drops unless Network Stumbler program is running

For some reason my wireless connection (excellent signal strength) drops like every 10 minutes unless I have the program NetworkStumbler running in the background. Same thing happens with other wireless networks. Can anyone provide an explanation?

The connection was dropping every 10 minutes before I even downloaded the program.

Did you switch Off SSID, or the Wireless Beacon?

Not sure what those are, I know SSID is the display name of the network. I don't have access to the routers, they are public.

All I can do is edit settings on my laptop.

You might want to find the owner of the public Hot Spot and get instructions.

I don't know who the owner is. If you're trying to imply that I'm leeching off someone's personal connection, I'm not. I explained to you in another thread that these networks are from nearby university buildings and cafes etc.

It must be something with the settings of my computer if NetStumbler alleviates the problem.

I am not implying any thing; you probably can not resolve the problem without cooperation at the source.

Netstumbler logs to the Source's Beacon regardless of the SSID and that is probably why it allows you connect.
