wireless connection drops randomly

when i bought my netgear mr814v1 the wireless connection worked flawlessly, no drops. about 6 months later my wireless connection constantly drops randomly even when it says the connection is 'excellent'. but when the wireless card is about 20 feet away the router the connection does not drop. i have not added any new wireless devices in my house since i bought the wireless router. i have upgraded to the latest firmwares over the 6 months. should i go back to the older ones? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Yeah, change the channel if you haven't already done so. If it still drops, then you have to look at other possible problems. If you're on channel 6, usually the default channel, try channel 11 or channel 1.

i changed to another channel and am not getting as frequent drops. i think my neighbor might of got a new 2.4ghz device.
