wireless connection dropping off

im at my buddies house helping him get his wireless network setup. ive got everything going, and the wireless connection (128bit encryption) between the router and the laptop works and I can get on teh web.. but every 30 seconds or so it will disconnect and then reconnect about 5 seconds after its been disconnected..

ive checked the power settings... i dont think the pcmcia card is turning off and on.... i can see the neighbor's router. its encrypted to. he's on channel 6 and im on 11...

any ideas on what would cause it to drop on and off???

Sounds like Wireless Zero Configuration - my old friend [/sarcasm]. Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services, then go down the list. Stop it and then change its startup to Manual.

i had a similar problem , anytime i try to use WAP

so i just use 40 bit WEP and it stays connected

i have seen some references to some microsoft service thingy that you can disable and it may help, i forget what. some new wireless connector manger something

i was too lazy to pursue it and live in the sticks, so 40 bit WEP is good enough for me

good luck, you may find some posts on this in the networking forum
