ok guys, I did my first build friday with success. Previously I had a Dlink Wireless B Card in my laptop, worked beautifully. Yesterday, I just bought a Belkin Wireless G PCI card for this computer, when connected its awesome. But it seems like every once and a while the card disconnects, and I have to restart my comp in order for it to work again. It almost seems like the disconnections are at time increments.

This is really annoying, can someone help

windows XP before SP2 would do this if "Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for the network" was checked in your wireless connection properties

otherwise try changing the channel on the AP

ok i just changed the channel up to 11. I do have two neighbors with wireless, and I do pick up their connections. But my linksys connection is usually around 95-100% while theirs is at around 50%. So obviously mine has a better signal.

But when I change the channel on the router, do I have to change anything else on the PC that has the wireless card?

I ask because I just changed the channel to 11, but im still picking up their signal too.

nope. That didnt work. It disconnected me again, and I had to restart the computer in order to regain connection and post this message.

Both computers have SP2. What gives?

ok well i think i have solved it. The computer has been connected for over 4 hours now, which is the longest it has been.

I went under the properties of my wireless card, and under them it had a drop down box that said SSID. In the box was "Any" , "linksys" (which is the router we have), and "gateway" (which is the neighbors router). The box was initially at "Any".

I changed it to "linksys" and have yet to have a problem

hopefully that fixed it

If that doesn't fix it, try disabling powermanagement on it by going into the device's properties and clicking on the powermanagement tab.

the power management is disabled. Its weird now im connected but i get random spikes when playin games and stuff.

Like in CS my ping will raise really quickly, and i will lag for a second. When playing the game, the ping next to my name never changes, that stays low. But when i do the "net_graph 3" thing and look at my ping in milliseconds, it will raise high really fast and then lower. It does this every 5 minutes or so.

I know its not the router, because i played the game on my Dlink Wireless B card on my laptop fine. But yet i cant get it to be completly stable with my Belkin Wireless G.

Wierd.

Could it be that the network adaptor coming from my PC is at the back of the comp where all the wires are and such? And that when I use my laptop it stays right on top of the desk.

Lastly, would using an 11mbps transfer rate be more stable than a 54 mbps transfer rate?
