Wireless cnx slows down/craps out

Just got the setup yesterday and it worked fine for a while, then the connection between my laptop (Intel PRO/Wireless 2915ABG Net) and the router (DI-524) would all of a sudden stall. I'd check the connection and it would say Speed: 1.0 Mbps. Sometimes it would right itself, but all too often I'd have to disconnect and reconnect, sometimes waiting several minutes.

I upgraded the firmware and remembered it mentioned it fixed a problem with channel 6 being slow, since that was the default I changed it to channel 9 and bingo, rock solid. That was this morning. This afternoon it started doing it's slowing act again. As I type it's bouncing around between 24Mbps and 54Mbps. When it hits 24 it starts to lag noticeably. I have a PC wired to the router, and it doesn't seem affected by it.

Any suggestions? If you tell me my router is crapI won't be upset, once I mail in the rebate it won't have cost me a penny (ok 50 cents for postage) and I'd like to get one with 802.11a soon. Hopefully there's at least a temporary solution, because when it's at 54 it's smooth as silk. This happens in any room, from any distance--from 4 feet away to down the hall in a bedroom. As I type I'm about 6 feet away with a clear line of sight. 😕

Cheers.

Tried a few other settings. Disabled "Gaming" since I'm doing none of that (the help file suggested disabling it when not gaming). To no avail, though it seems to be worse at night.

Ok, it's really bad this morning so I looked at the log and here's how that looks:

So for some reason it seems the router keeps dropping the link every couple of minutes. It actually goes back a little further to when it leased the IP address. Is there a setting or anything I can do to keep it from dropping the connection? Listening to MP3's is downright annoying, every 2 minutes they get all choppy. 🙁

I've tried different channels with no luck. Like I mentioned above distance doesn't do anything either, it happens regardless how close I am.
