I recently upgraded to a wireless setup. I have the microsoft wireless-G router, and a DLink PCI wireless B card( 512+ I think). Everything works well when the router is on and there is a connection. However, there are some problems when the connection gets dropped, whether because of interference, rebooting the router or just turning the router off. My PC (P4 3.2 with 1Gig DDR) will STOP responding until connection is reestablished. not even the mouse cursor will respond. I have fixed this temporarily by manually assigning an IP, but I really need the flexibility of the DHCP specially with my laptop. I first tried manually installing the Microsoft router then when i came accross this problem, I tried using the Broadband connection software that came with it to configure it again. All I got for this trouble was extra software installed on My PC, a new Icon on my tray, but the lockup still occurs when the connection is dropped. Any help?
Additional Info :
SSID is not broadcast but is manually set
WEP is enabled (128)
IP Address range is 192.168.2.xxx
DHCP is enabled
PC has XP Pro with all updates.
FYI I didn't have this trouble when I was using an old DLINK wireless B. The differences I can see right now are
1) different brands
2) SSID could not be disabled from broadcast for the DLINK.
3) Microsoft is G while the Dlink was B.
any suggestions?
I don't want to buy new cards for all my PC's, and I would rather not broadcast the SSID.
