Wireless card on old Dell Inspiron/Acer Aspire

My girlfriend has an old Dell Inspiron, and the wireless connection keeps cutting out every 2 minutes or so, and then come back online.

The model is probably almost 8/9 years old now, so is it possible that the WLAN card is getting degraded?

There are all sorts of issues that could be causing that. #1 on my list would be interference of some sort. Where I used to live, there was a ton of electromagnetic interference that messed up my wireless signals. The only thing I could do was to run two routers as a wireless repeater bridge and crank up the transmit power on the routers. Even that didn't do very much to solve the problem.

I have an HP Mini, and on this model the WLAN card works fine. It is the same WLAN connection as my gf's. This is why I suspect it's the card and not the connection. I also use my work laptop on the connection too, and I get no problems on it.

Instead of telling stories may be it will be a good idea to state the "secret" model of the Laptop and the Wireless card.
