Wireless card help for old laptop

Hi, i've got an old thinkpad 240 running windows 2000 and I bought a linksys wpc54g adaptor.

installed the new drivers, plugged the thing in, windows recognzies it, but for some reason the "network cable" is unplugged.

using Network Stumbler, my wireless card picks up my AP

what's going on?

Done the standard delete-from-device-manager-reboot, uninstall and reinstall drivers?
