I just ordered a new 3-Com 3CRWE554G72TU-US Wireless Router the other day (whopping $11 after rebate) to replace my old-school wired router.

My new dilemma is that I need to connect my dekstop PC to the aforementioned router. So, I'm looking for recommendations for a wireless card. Some questions I have are:

  1. Is it recommended to also purchase a 3-Com device for the PC?
  1. Better to go with PCI as opposed to USB?
  1. What other important question am I forgetting to ask?

Many thanks for the assistance.

first, i need to tell you i dont have a ton of experience with PC wireless cards, but i will try to help you anyway.

personally, i would stay away from USB devices because my experience with them has been less than acceptable. PCI cards are the way to go IMO.

newegg has only this as far as 3com devices. if that is too expensive, you could try this, this (good reviews), or this.

just FYI, this is what some of the USB devices will look like (thumb drives). i have never used one so i cant comment.

I've only used one...but the advantage to USB based is you can get a usb extension cable and then position it for the best reception...almost like an external antenna
