Hello,
I have been reading the forums for several years now. I finally ran across something that already did not have a solution and wanted some help. I searched the forum and couldn't find a simple solution. So here is the situation.
I have a DSL Modem (provided by ISP), which is hooked up to a 4 year old wireless Router (Linksys, running a rare variant of WRT54G (Don't recall the exact model no., which requires an even rarer build of DD-WRT).
This gives me complete coverage across my home.
I recently bought a Panasonic Plasma 50VT20 which has some Internet features. This TV is in a different room. However, it doesn't feature inbuilt WiFi and requires a WiFi Dongle that costs anywhere between the equivalent of $80 to $120.
The attempt is to skimp on this and and also save a USB port (It has only two), I was thinking of getting a cheap WiFi router, which could connect to the existing Router, that I already have (Transparently or otherwise) and give me a 2-4 Ethernet points which I could connect up to the TV and other devices in the near vicinity.
I also read about Routers with repeater capability etc. Not too clear if this is the same thing or something that can achieve the same results.
This is what I need.
I was looking for a cheap device that can preferably do this out of the box (without custom firmware like DD-WRT, Tomato et al). The reason for this aversion is the vague model of the existing router. I had installed DD-WRT on it a couple of years back and the router became a little unstable, so I reverted back to the stock firmware.
I am from India and if you are familiar with routers available in India, then reccos of something available here are much appreciated (and an link to a online store is even more appreciated).
Many Thanks in advance.
