hey guys... due to the weird layout of my house and stupidity of the bellsouth/at&t i can get DSL only in 1 phone outlet. i have a wrt150N router hooked up to it. unfortunately my htpc and fileserver are in a different room. currently i have the following setup

WRT150N ---<wireless>---- wrt54g(as wireless bridge) ---> gigabit switch --> server, htpc etc..

obviously my server and htpc are limited to 54Mbps because of the wireless G router. Now my question is, if i were to get another 802.11n router (another wrt150N) and use that as a bridge insted of the wrt54g will i be able to get wireless N speed across? i would like to know this before i make any purchase...

Thanks

Yes, by installing DD-WRT on the device, and running it in client bridge mode.

Note however that "54 Mb/s" and whatever draft-n claims are exaggerations. Standard-g will cap at around 23 Mb/s actual transfer speed under ideal conditions (which are rarely reached), and draft-n might do something around 50 Mb/s actual transfer speed under good conditions. There's absolutely no way it'll hit the marketed "270 Mb/s", or whatever for actual transfer rates.

Edit: The WRT150N is compatible, but is no longer easily available. If you want to get something else, first check the model and revision on DD-WRT's supported hardware list carefully -- check the notes to see if it's fully supported or a "work in progress". The latter means it's not really supported, but you might get lucky in the next year or so...

If the WRT150N can work as a bridge try it.

I.e., reverse the roll of the 150 and the 54.

reversing the role is fine. but i want to stream hd content between pcs hooked up on both routers. if i have wrt54G at either end, i am gonna end up with 54Mbps max traffic right?

It might be better since Higher Steam might pass the Bridge.

just wanted to update. i got another wrt150N. setup one as an AP and other as client bridge. it works like charm. this method also improved transfer rate in a laptop that only has a wireless G card.
