Wireless bridge - crossover cable?

I just setup a motorola wireless bridge i got from woot.com on a freind's xbox. i was testing it here at home before i went there with my xbox and it worked. but that was with my own normal network patch cable. so i went to his house, tweaked the settings to his WEP and etc and it also worked. so it's all fine and great, but then i found out that it was a CROSSOVER cable that came with the box?

so why does it matter if it's crossover or not? obviously the bridge worked on normal cable at my house and then it also worked on crossover cable at his house?!?!?! 😕
