Wireless backup drive?

My brother asked me to figure out how to set up a wireless backup drive for his iPhone. I think he wants a universal backup drive and doesn't want to be finagled into more Apple devices. He asked me, "How can I set up a wireless backup drive so when I walk into the house my iPhone automatically syncs my data on the drive?" er something like that. He was talking about an Apple device that does that but my question is will he be stuck or have any issues transferring files to a Windows machine if he wants to? Can this be done with just a simple drive hooked up to a router for him, or does he need a thing-a-ma-jig for this fancy pantsy stuff?

Try this http://daemonsync.me/home but its only for photo/videos. Not sure why he wants a wireless backup drive, this app moves stuff to your pc.
