wireless AP and client end cards...

do access points and the clients they communicate with have to be of the same brand?...i'd like to assume no but just wanted
to make sure before i make my purchases..

would it be easier to configure if both were of the same brand? or it doesn't matter?

i was thinking of getting the D-Link DI-713P and then using ORiNOCO Turbo Gold pcmcia cards for the client ends...

There are usually some utilities that like same brand hardware but they should all generally all work together.

Conventional Wisdom* claims that the combination Orinoco Gold (About $90) SMC Wireless Router (About $160) yield the best results.

ORiNOCO PC Card - Gold.

There are no real big differences between the entry level Routers.

The D-Link713 is the same OEM as the SMC Barricade.
