Question Wireless Android Auto and Samsung

Picked up a Kenwood head unit yesterday that supports wireless android auto. According to their website any phone running 9.0 is wireless capable. Going to Google they say only Pixel and Nexus phones are compatible. Since this doesn't sound like a Kenwood problem (they'd probably want as many phones as possible to work), is this Google trying to sell more Pixels or Samsung just not caring enough to add that functionality?

Hopefully this is the right forum.
 
I'm using Android Auto on an Amazon Fire tablet. I had to sideload the Google app store and Android Auto onto the tablet but it works. Getting past each party's fenced ecosystem was the issue. So give it a try.
