Wireless and ADSL

I have a setup with two PC's (one stationary and one portable) and a WLAN router. The stationary is connected to the internet through an internal adsl modem. The WLAN router is connected to the stationary through a TP-cable with an ethernetcard in the stationary. The portable is finally connected to the WLAN router through a wireless connection.

The problem is that I can access the internet with the stationary, but not with the portable. The stationary is given an IP from the server at the end of the ADSL-connection. But the router also wants to act as a DNS server, so I think the conflict might lie there. Since the adsl modem is internal, I obviously cannot connect the router directly to the internet, which would have made things easier. What settings should I apply to the PC's and the router in order for this to work?

Thanks.

just to make sure I am understanding the setup....

Inet-->Internal Modem on PC-->Ethernet card on PC-->Wireless router/AP-->Wireless client

if that is correct....

if your ISP allows 2 connections, bridge the ADSL Internel modem and the LAN connection.

If you ISP allows only a single...Setup internet connection sharing, and plug the lan card into one of the normal ports on the Wireless router/AP and turn off it's DHCP stuff.

"But the router also wants to act as a DNS server"

DHCP server, not DNS. You don't use the routing functionality of the device as your describing your setup. You'd simply use the Access Point part of it. So, ethernet cable to a LAN port, NOT the WAN port and disable DHCP on the router/AP. That's it. You will need to have a proxy/NAT software soution on the host machine, the stationary box, as mentioned. ICS will work.

Better advice is to get an external modem from your provider with ethernet connectivity.
