I have 2 computers. my main one has a linsys 11g pci card and my second one
uses a linksys usb model WUSB54G. someone nearby has set up an apple network
and my usb adapter keeps picking it up and connecting to it first instead of my
default connection which is my niehbor janet's dlink router which i use with permission
( i installed it for her ). she did not want to set up any security on it and is not
concerned about that. my question is how can i stop my usb adapter from connecting
to the apple network. right now i have to go in manualy and reset the default
connection which is some what of a pain in the neck.
My pci card dose not see the apple i'm guessing because the antena is in the back
of the computer unlike the usb which sits up higher on top of the computer.
Sorry for the long post. just wanted to supply enough info.

You need to set it to prefer your neighbor janets network.

Do so by:
righ-click on My Network Places/right-click on Wireless Network Connection/select view Available Wireless Networks/Advanced/setup your preferred Networks (maybe remove the apple conncetion altogether, or set it up with wrong encryption or something to prevent a connection)

Instead of no security, you might want to set up MAC address filtering if Janet's router supports it. That will keep unwanted war drivers from accessing you network.

Security is a two way Road if you pick up your neighbor signal, he also picks yours.

You might say I am OK, but do you know what someone else who taps to the connection might do through your Internet account.

In any case, by setting the security correctly the other problem will go away.

She dosent want anything changed or set. i'll just set her default as prefered and delete
the apple. i wouldn't mind having 2 connections to use but the apple is to far from my
adapter and is a very weak signal. thanks for everyones input.
