wireless adapter not working on laptop

This computer is less than a year old and the wireless adapter craps out every now and then. It happens every now and then and usually occurs from a cold boot. Reboots don't fix the problem, at least not in themselves. It seems to just randomly not work and randomly start working. It's just a craps shoot whenever I boot up.

The adapter is just not reading any of the wirless networks in the air. Sometimes when I boot up the blue light that indicates the adapter is on will cut off (which is another indication that my adapter is hosed). I will push the button twice to turn it off and on again, but the light will just cut off after a second.

Here are some things of note:
Intel 2200BG wireless adapter
Compaq Presario V4000T
wired connection works fine
Other computers can connect fine
I travel around and connect to different wireless networks
I recently got a new ISP and used their install disk (verizon)
I had a wireless VPN client installed (it's uninstalled now didn't fix the problem)

I think that about covers it.

Ahh, I forgot, running Windows XP Home sp2 with latest essential updates (no driver updates listed)
and I'm using Wireless Zero to connect wirelessly.
 
Okay, so I sort have found a fix, but I don't like it.

Basicly, I just uninstall the wifi card driver and reboot until my card starts working again.
