Wireless Adapter not enabled until long after Windows boot

This is very frustrating.

The NIC on my Travelmate doesn't even show up until about five minutes after I boot up... never mind able to find a wireless network..... the light that shows it's enabled doesn't even light up! It's as if it doesn't even plug n' play until 5 mintues after the PC is on!

This causes problems like error messages from instant messaging services telling me that it can't connect to the server and Outlook telling me it can't send/receive. Nevermind this completely negates the laptop's inability to be quickly fired up to check mail.

I had a Thinkpad before this and the NIC worked as soon as the PC was booted up.

Is this a driver issue? Hardware? In the BIOS, all I can do is enable "boot from LAN" and this certainly didn't help any.

TIA!

No. I've disabled the Broadcom software and it doesn't make a difference.

And that FAQ doesn't address my problem. I can get online. I just have to sit and wait a good five minutes before the NIC shows up and it starts scanning for wireless networks.
