Wireless Adapter for Desktop Question

Dumb question here for sure:

I have a Netgear 801.11b router that I use to host my laptop wirelessly. I'd like to move my desktop to another area of the house that doesn't have a cable connector. Instead of putting in an outlet, I'd like to just get a PCI wireless adapter for my desktop and gain access from the router.

Dumb question is: Do I have to get a Netgear wireless adapter or can I get any brand as long as it's compatible with 802.11b? Also, are the USB adapters as effective as the PCI versions?

Thanks...figured but wanted to make sure before I bought something. Looks like the Netgear one is on sale at OfficeMax so I may not even have to go cross-brand.

Actually, buy an 802.11g card they are compatible with 802.11b

If you buy 802.11b, you are stuck with a ?Slow Go? at day that you upgrade to better system.

If you buy 802.11b, do not buy a USB since they were Not so good when they were initially released.

PCI vs. USB? This might help, http://www.ezlan.net/faq#wcard
