Wireless Access Point questions

I currently have a wired network using a 4port Netgear RT314. I'm thinking of adding a wireless access point to one of the ports and had a couple questions about access points in general.

1) In order to connect one wireless device to my network, would I need anything other one access point and one wireless card?

2) Is it possible for a pda or Win2k laptop to automatically choose between the home and school networks.

3) Would two different devices be able to access the network at the same time using the same access point (i.e. a laptop and pda using two different cards simultaneously), or would I need another access point or a wireless router?

that's it

depends on how the two networks are setup. if both are dhcp, and neither require a Windows Domain for authenication, it's relatively transparent.

3) Would two different devices be able to access the network at the same time using the same access point (i.e. a laptop and pda using two different cards simultaneously), or would I need another access point or a wireless router?

yes

One more question. How much of an effect do 2.4GHz cordless phones have on the network? There is a 2.4GHz phone in the next room. Will my wireless network be a flop because of it?

If you are using the 2.4G phone while the Wireless is active, there is a strong possibility that the Wireless Connection will be dropped.

Try it to see if you have frequency overlap, Sometimes it can be avoided by setting a different channel in the Wireless system.
