Wireless access point directly to Westell 6100?

I am needing to set up a home wireless network. Unfortunately all pc's in the home must connect wirelessly so I was curious... Is it possible to connect just a wireless access point directly to my modem? The specific devices I would be interested in connecting to my modem would be either a Linksys WAP610N or a Linksys WAP54G. My apologies if this is somewhat confusing but hopefully some one understands what I am asking? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The Westell 6100 is a modem/router combo so your access point should work fine connected directly to the LAN port on the modem.

One small caveat to the above poster: the Westell 6100 is configured (and I believe restricted) to only providing a single address via DHCP. If you use static IPs, you can connect multiple systems to it.

However, your best bet would be to change the modem into "bridge mode" or set it to give the inside device the public IP via DHCP (both of which are configurable options) and get a normal wireless router to perform your NAT. Wireless routers are often cheaper than WAPs anyway.

According to this, the Westell 6100 will work fine out of the box with a switch. It appears to be "borrowed" from the BellSouth FAQ, but should apply to any ISP unless other ISPs use a different configuration for the modem.

I agree that bridge mode with a router is better, but if subtraction already has an access point, that link says it should work...

I never said it wouldn't work. I said that he'll need to statically assign IP addresses on his clients if he wants to use more than one.
