Wireless access point and router

A friend of mine in the same college house wants wireless but doesn't know the difference between a wireless router and a wireless access point. I don't either. Can anyone help out?
 
I think the only main difference is that the Router has a DHCP server while the Access Point only has DHCP-relay.

You could always just turn off DHCP on the Router and make it run like an Access Point...just go with the router.
