I know they've had this for a while but I grabbed one of these little flier from McDonalds today at lunch. When you go to the website from the ISP (http://www.wayport.net/wifiworld), it has this great info:

Walk-up customers can pay $2.95 for a two-hour wireless Internet connection,

I don't think I've ever brought my laptop into a McDonalds to surf the 'net and I know I've never been in one for 2 hours.

Does anyone actually use services like this when you can just go to Starbucks and get online for free?

Wayport's Wi-Fi World? strategy helps McDonald's to differentiate itself from other quick service restaurants and attract a wider customer base.

Yeah, like I'll make a special trip to McDonalds just to use their internet service. Heh heh.

You'd think with the money they have they could get a marketing team with a clue. It's not just this that makes me wonder, it's all their advertising campaigns, and a lot of the other things they have tried, like that DVD rental service in a McDonalds.

There's no Starbucks around here that offers free WIFI. They offer a connection to T-Mobile's WIFI service, but that's $20/month. What Starbucks offers free WIFI!?

On a side note, the Hooters that's across the street from my work is going to be getting WIFI any day now :D :D :D

I tried the drive thru at a McDs today for lunch (haven't been to one in about 6 months, thought it was time) and they wouldn't accept my credit/debit card! I left and went to Wendys.

I always use my CC at McDonalds since they started taking them. Some restaurants got them quicker than others but now I think they all do around here.

Maybe they should do something where you get wireless internet access for an extra 25 cents with a large drink. You'd have to buy a large drink and pay an extra 25 cents

yeah, Panera has it for free, as well as our local coffee shop. The town library has like High tech ones that you can pick up on way outside of it, so thats cool

WIFI places are popping up everywhere. Even my local car-wash is giving free WIFI while you're waiting for them to finish washing your car :)

I was at one once, just happened to have my laptop with me and needed to show something on it to a friend of mine. Imagine my surprise when it said it found a new connection. It had some default SSID so it might have been from a house nearby or something...

I think it is a good idea. I'm sure there are a lot of things we use today that we thought were silly originally. I wouldn't be suprised to see internet access in a lot of the major chains within the next 5-6 years. It'll become like pay phones.
