Wireless acces point question..

ok for some reason today my belkin router randomly turned off and refused to power back up, so i call belkin etc etc etc and there sending out a brand new one, now for some reason after sitting unplugged all night the router is working again, my question is my router is upstairs and my laptop only has 2signal bars from downstairs, i know in the router settings i can set this router up strictly as an access point, so what do i have to do to put this downstairs and set it up as a access point to have a better signal for my laptop, i mean if i have a spare router why not use it go some good use right?

If the second wireless is much better than the current, one replaces it.

Otherwise putting two Wireless Routers (Access Point) in the same room would not do any thing but probably add more noise.

On the other hand if you lay a cable toward the down stairs (may be in the hallway) and connect the second Wireless Router to the end of the cable as an Access Point, you might have a better signal since the second Wireless would be closer to the downstairs.

If you bring cable downstairs you can connect it to the computer, you do need wireless.

The idea is to use shorter, easy to lay cable, and then put the second Router as an access point somewhere midway.
