I want to share my horrible experience with Wirefly in hopes that this will save a lot of folks from unnecessary frustration.
I just ordered a new account + cell phone 3 says ago. After 2 days of pointless waiting, Wirefly finally posted a message that there is a problem with my billing adress and it needs to be verified. What the hell do they need me to verify if I already gave them my billing adress?!
I called immediately. After spending and HOUR AND THIRTY MINUTES ON HOLD I hanged up, frustrated. Called the next day... AGAIN, I have to wait on hold.... 40 MINUTES!
Finally a woman with the most horrific Hinduific accent picks up. So abysmal and outrageous her accent was that I had to strain just to understand anything at all! Finally she tells me that my bank that issues my credit card lists a different adress than the one I listed. Impossible, I say! I know for a fact, with 100% certainly that my bank has my correct address, and there is absolutely no way they would have a wrong adress listed.
The foreigner keeps babbling to me that the adress is wrong.. So I ask her which address is listed then, so I can find out what's going on, but she tells me that she cannot provide me with this information.... Why I ask? Isnt it MY name that is listed on the card? Yes it is my name..... Then what the hell is the problem? Am I a thief? A criminal?
No, there is no way that I am going to call my bank and then spend another two hours on hold with Wirefly, listening to their annoying reminders about the extremely high call volume and the avaibility of the website every 2 fucking minutes, just to suffer through a conversation with another Indian that doesnt speak any English whatsoever!
Look, I know what having an accent is like. I am a jew from Ukraine, born in good ol' USSR, who is quickly branded as a "Russky" by many here in the US, without even giving it a second of thought. I had to deal with many hurtful laughs before, and sometimes I still do. But I took the time to learn English, and I am doing my best to speak it as cleanly as I can. For the past 10 years or so I havent had anyone tell me they couldnt understand me or had any trouble at all understanding me in a conversation over the phone or in RL. I feel good about this accompplishment, but you can be damned sure I would never subject anyone to the torture of dealing with me as a customer support guy over the phone. Instead I am studying to become a Network Engineer.
I immediately cancelled my order. Wirefly just lost a potential customer because they are too damn cheap to hire competent, English speaking workers.
I thought that maybe I am this bitter angry fuck that makes a big deal out of outsourcing and unneeded beurocracy. Well, I went on google and did some searching. Apparently many, many other people have exactly the same issues, and Wirefly is indeed a horrible service, with only 50 to 70% of people dealing with them having a good experience.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from Wirefly, no matter how good their deals may seem to be.
/end of rant
