I'm trying to run CAT6 between two Linksys E3000 running Toastman Tomato so that I can extend the range of both WiFi and wired network without compromising speed & performance. Right now, typically when I get to that side of the house my phone can only get 1 bar on WiFi strength, hopefully with this solution it will roam to the other router

Can anyone confirm if the setup is as follows:
- Setup different static IPs for each router.
- Primary router has connected to modem on internet port, DHCP enabled, port forwarding; secondary router with DHCP disabled
- Duplicated the Wireless settings 100% between the two routers

For roaming, I don't set them to different channels, I set them to the same channel.

Then again, I have a different setup, I have three WNR2000v2 units running DD-WRT, in WDS mode, so they have to be on the same channel for WDS to work.

If both APs are on the same channel the signal for one introduces noise to the other and vise-versa.

Since SNR (signal to noise ratio) is the most important variable in any type of meaningful transmission it means reduction of performance in both APs.

That said depending on the environment and roaming requirement it is advisable to try one type of setting for few active days, and then the other type, and choose the one that does best in One's specific locale.
